I Told You So: Part II

Sandra Bullock's Oscar 2011 dress
designed by Vera Wang.

The odd protrusions at the breasts...and the
sculptured bodice detract from
the flow of the dress.

One of the gossip magazines at the supermarket checkout has a photo of Sandra Bullock in the red Vera Wang dress she wore at the 2011 Oscars. I asked the woman behind me what she thought of the dress. Her immediate reaction was "I don't like the bust, it's sticking out."

That is what I wrote in my commentary on the dress a few months ago:
The odd protrusions at the breasts... and the sculptured bodice detract from the flow of the dresses.
Women are not stupid, especially when it comes to looking good and attractive. Current fashion designers may have fooled the runway shows and "elite" fashion followers, but even that is temporary. Avant-garde looks good on television shows, and maybe hanging on a wall to acquire prestige, but what woman wants to look ugly when she walks out of the house?

I've noticed that young women are beginning to wear colorful, attractive clothes, and are starting to look feminine. Department stores and boutiques are also promoting prettiness, although that could just be a Spring sales strategy. Not to belabor my "Asian" theme, but the majority of young women I see in dark and drab (unimaginative, unsytlistic) clothes are Asians.

Which of course started my blog articles on the unimaginative Wang. Still, I wonder how long her star will last. I've written that she started out as a wedding dress designer, but has branched out into so many areas, including home decor design, that I think this she is flaying around trying to maintain her design empire.

Now, I wonder if she has been "borrowing" from the Marchesa designers (the second link shows their 2012 white bridal gowns collection. Wang delves into black), who have built their name around well-crafted, well-designed ball gowns, and made the natural progression into wedding gowns.
