Patron Saint of Food

"Eat your vegetables!"

First Lady Michelle Obama is now lecturing the army on how to eat. But mostly she's on a mission, which started with her "Let's Move" program for school children, and which now seems to be targeting adults in various segments of the population.
"You all look really good, really fit," she told the airmen [at the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas]. "Thank you for eating your vegetables. We need you strong."

[...]

"When you make healthy eating a priority in your lives, the rest of us are more likely to make it a priority in our lives," she told the airmen.
The report continues:
The first lady was visiting Little Rock as part of a three-day national tour marking the second anniversary of her "Let's Move" campaign. She made a stop earlier in the day in Des Moines, Iowa to meet with an arena full of schoolchildren at a pep rally for healthy eating and exercise.

I'm not the only one reacting in this uncharitable manner to the good works of the First Lady. Here are some comments on the article linked above:
- KennyWest: These guys probably really appreciate having a smug elitist telling them to eat their vegetables. She "needs to have them strong" as the Obama Administration cuts their funding to bare bones levels.

- jackflintstone: Telling a grown man to eat his veggies...it was a good thing this was military hall otherwise I'm sure someone would have told her what she can do with her f'n veggies. Could she be any more condescending? And national security implications...please. Obama is massively cutting the ranks anyway, so what is she talking about? The pres and first lady are so smug and presumptuous. If I was still in the service I would be flaming pissed off. Sorry for all you still in uniform. Hopefull it will only be for another year.

Here's someone who's taking her up on her nutritional expertise (it's a little long, but worth reading):

- johnhornor3: It's a shame that they want to increase Soldiers's intake of the worst foods (whole-grains) and decrease that of the most beneficial (meats). The increase in fruits and veggies I can agree with, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. However there are nine essential amino acids that can only be acquired through consumption, and meat is by far the best source. Add to that the fact that fat is the only source of energy that needs goes through no chemical conversion in order to be metabolized at a cellular level, and this dietary change is setting up Soldiers to become MORE obese, less physically fit, and more susceptible to a wider range of diseases.

- Htos1: It must be nice to be a complete obliviot.
